Alvin Elmer Steinbring, age 87, passed away on September 19, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his family, in Coon Rapids, MN. Born on August 25, 1937, Alvin led a life marked by hard work, dedication and caring for others, traits that endeared him to many throughout his years.
Alvin graduated from Cambridge High School in 1955, and then went on to develop skills at a trade school for bricklaying. Alvin laid brick on many jobs from 1955-1984, with a personal highlight for him being able to help lay the brick for the Minnesota Twins Met Stadium.
During this time and alongside his wife Margaret they welcomed Nancy and David as they built their family. They also helped many other families and children as well, fostering 30 children in their home from 1967-1971.
Later on, in 1987, he graduated with honors from North Hennepin Community College with certification to become a building inspector. For 12 years, Alvin worked as a building inspector, a job he was well suited for, in the City of Savage.
veteran, Alvin served in the Army National Guard for five years, and was proud to be based out of Camp Ripley in Little Falls, MN.
Alvin's faith played a significant role in his life, actively participating in several congregations including: St John's Lutheran Church in Weber, St. James Lutheran in Crystal, House of Hope in New Hope, and Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, coin collecting, collecting pieces from the Dickens Village series and traveling visiting family and friends.
Alvin was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed playing golf for many years, coached baseball, played cribbage, and delighted in mystery word search books.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret of Ramsey, MN; children, Nancy (Kim) Mulder of Northwood, Iowa and David (Patricia) of Anoka, MN; grandchildren, Mitchell (Emily) Mulder of Albert Lea, MN, Melissa (Cody) Strand of Northwood, Iowa, Kjestine (Jared) Boyer of Anoka, MN, and Patrick (Ashley) Steinbring of Anoka, MN; and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Madelyn, & Tristan Strand, Brynn, Hannah, Isla Mulder, Charlotte, and Jack Boyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Irene Steinbring, brothers Marvin and Harold, and in-laws Jack Miller, Marjorie Steinbring, and Joan Steinbring.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 11 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 S. 4th Ave, Anoka. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Renville, MN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, MN or The Ronald McDonald House, honoring Alvin's commitment to community and care.
