Empey, Allan Adrian, age 66, of rural Deer River, Mn. died peacefully on April 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Mn., with family at his side. Allan was born March 24, 1944 at home in Buckman, Mn., the son of John Clifford and Blanche (Tuma) Empey. He married Jo Anne Henry on August 16, 1969 in Mound, Mn. Allan grew up in Little Falls, Mn., where he attended school through his junior year, played baseball for the Little Falls Flyers, and participated in Golden Gloves boxing. His family moved to Anoka, Mn., and he graduated from Anoka Sr. High in 1962. He served in the US Army in Germany and upon returning attended Anoka Ramsey Junior College. He owned and operated, consecutively, three hardware stores in Plymouth, Ramsey and Elk River, Mn.; retiring to Johnson Lake, north of Grand Rapids, Mn. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys Mae Empey, Jean Palmer and Pat Adriaens; and brothers, Ronald, Larry and Jack. Allan is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; sons, Peter of Elk River and Jason of Deer River; grandchildren, Cody and Katelyn; brothers, Bill (Carol) of Marcell, Mn. and Jim (Diane) of Duluth; sister, MaryKay (Otis) Ricker of Mount Vernon, Or.; numerous nephews, nieces and their families. a Time of Remembrance Saturday from 2-4 PM at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Ave., Anoka, Mn. 55303.
